Friends of Givat Haviva Executive Director Jonathan Lack, in his Times of Israel oped, urges
Jewish and Arab citizens of Israel, and American Jews, to work together with to build a shared
society.
“Shared society initiatives are practical, measurable, and rooted in daily reality—not in ideology
or rhetoric. This is not symbolism. It is practical nation-building. The organization I represent,
Givat Haviva, builds through education, youth leadership, teacher training, and municipal
cooperation, the societal infrastructure necessary for a shared future in Israel,” Lack writes.
The oped is based on Lack’s address to the Givat Haviva Shared Society Conference, which
took place January 6, on the Givat Haviva campus. He emphasized to the standing room only
audience “the potential – indeed essential obligation – for American Jews, as well as for pro-
Israel Christians, to engage with Israeli leaders, Arab and Jewish, to work together to advance
communal relations that will strengthen democracy in the country we all love.”
