Dear Friends,
At a time when divisions within Israeli society remain deep and anti-Israel sentiment in the United States is increasingly coming from both the political left and the right, the work of building a shared future for Israel’s Jewish and Arab citizens and helping Americans better understand the complexity of Israeli society has never been more important.
Having spent much of my adult life working to strengthen Jewish-Arab cooperation, I know that lasting change begins with sustained relationships built on trust. This is exactly what Orit Meoded, Zakaria Mahameed, and the Children Teaching Children program represent.
This month’s newsletter highlights how Givat Haviva advances this mission through education, personal engagement, and participation in Israel’s democratic future. In addition to our feature story about Orit and Zakaria’s nearly two decades of partnership, you will find information about our September 16 quarterly briefing, Givat Haviva’s 2027 Shared Society Conference and Friends gatherings in Israel, and Mohammad Darawshe’s recent Jerusalem Post op-ed on the potential impact of the Arab vote.
Here in the United States, our team is hard at work planning a 14-city tour for Mohammad. He will share Givat Haviva’s important work with synagogues, Jewish Federations, universities, and private gatherings across the country. The tour will give more Americans the opportunity to hear directly about the challenges and possibilities of building a shared society in Israel, while helping Friends of Givat Haviva broaden awareness, deepen partnerships, and expand support for this vital work.
